Water management trade mission to Oman and Saudi Arabia

22 t/m 27 Januari 2022

Mission background

Saudi Arabia and Oman encourage Dutch water expertise

Oman and Saudi Arabia face major societal challenges in the areas of water management, water scarcity and salinization. Groundwater and surface water quantities are limited; there are virtually no rivers and precipitation is low. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has further increased the need for solutions in these areas. The need for water in these Gulf states is so enormous that the region's demand for water will most likely double by 2055. Both countries have therefore chosen to invest heavily in water technologies in the coming years.
Dutch innovative solutions, products and knowledge in the water sector are highly regarded by Saudi Arabia and Oman. It is no coincidence that Dutch policy in the Gulf has been successfully focusing on this theme for several years. For example, Saudi Arabia is currently working on several large water projects with Dutch input. There is also already a strategic cooperation between Oman and the Netherlands in the field of water.
